Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation, and spiritual discipline. Ash Wednesday is a time to recognize both our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. Thanks be to God that Christ has triumphed over both of these through His death and resurrection!
Join us on Wednesday, February 10, at 6:00pm for a special Ash Wednesday worship service.
Jeff and Sissie D’Jernes are missionaries who work with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They recently finalized the translation of the New Testament in the Arop dialect of the Arop-Lokep language spoken on Long Island, Papua New Guinea. The Arop-Lopek people now want them to continue assisting them with Old Testament translation and literacy training. The D’Jernes’s work in New Guinea is part of an ongoing effort to bring the Bible to language communities which, as yet, do not have God’s Word available in their language. For several years, St. Peter’s has helped support them in their missionary endeavors.
Here’s your chance to meet our missionaries! On Sunday, January 31, Jeff and Sissie D’Jernes will be at St. Peter’s for our morning worship service, and then will present a program in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 that evening. Come and meet our missionaries and learn about the wonderful work they are doing to help others learn about Christ.
We will have one worship service that day, followed by a covered dish luncheon. Mark your calendar and plan to attend!
