Philippians 2:5-11
Hebrews 12:1
I was awakened this morning by a radio preacher speaking about
bringing people to Jesus. Not just leading people to Jesus, but
bringing. One of the points that he brought out (as I remember
it through the fog of morning grogginess) was we can't just sit
by. We have to be active. Actively doing what? Let's pause
for a moment and think about what some of us might be actively
doing.
Some of us may be actively pointing out the faults in the
leadership of the church. Some of us may be actively blaming
others for our actions. Some of us may be actively pointing out
the sins of others to keep our own sins from seeming so
terrible. Some of us may be actively thinking we already do
enough for our church, so "let someone else do it" when there is
work to be done. Some of us actively take the role of superior
and expect to be served by others.
Some of us find ourselves guilty of one or all of these things.
If that's the case, no one - believers or unbelievers - will
want to come with us to meet Jesus.
Some of us may be encouraging others through words of
exhortation, and spurring one another on. Some of us may be in
prayer for the leadership of the church. Some of us are at the
church every time the doors are open, ready and willing to
volunteer for anything and everything. Some of us spend time in
repentance and taking responsibility for our actions. Some of
us may be constantly seeking ways to serve others, whether
serving UP to those in authority, or serving DOWN to those in
need.
These actions are some that will help us to bring people -
believers and unbelievers - to Jesus.
The apostle Paul says that our attitude should be that of Christ
Jesus. Jesus set aside his glory and laid down his life and
therefore God exalted him. Let us set aside all the things that
we think are right and seek out what God knows is right. Let us
love one another. Let us serve one another. Let's do what is
necessary to bring people to Jesus.
