ECONOMICS AND THE CHURCH

It is no secret that the American economy has slowed down quite a bit. The reasons for the slow-down are complex. The length of the slow-down is unknown.

Especially during a difficult time such as this, brothers and sisters in the congregation will want to show their solidarity with one another. One way of showing unity with church members and friends is to do business with them. Needing to buy goods and services, we would be wise and encouraging to buy them from the businesses run by church members and friends.

The next time you consider having your house's roof replaced or wiring repaired, adding a room or a deck onto your house, getting your lawnmower engine tuned up, buying a set of new tires for your car, or purchasing a special gift for a couple soon to be married, check first with a church member or friend who offers the services or the goods that you need. (If you need to know who offers what, you might check the bulletin board in the narthex or call Carole at the Church Office [726-2175].) This would be an expression of solidarity with Christ, with His Church, with one another.

With the help of our Lord, and with the help of one another, we will get through this economically difficult time. A part of getting through this difficult time -- and every little bit helps -- is simply doing business with each other. This is practical solidarity in the family of faith.
