Sisters in Christ

Greetings from the Sisters in Christ!

When the Ladies at St. Peter’s UMC started the daytime Bible Study Group, Christ’s Crafters, in 1992; their desire was to serve the Lord through studying the Bible, lifting joys and concerns in prayer, and reaching out and serving those in need. Now known as Sisters in Christ, we continue to do all of these. By doing so, we develop a closer relationship with Christ and a deeper Christ-like love for each other, a true sisterhood.

During our school year meetings in 2018, Sisters in Christ studied Ecclesiastes in a series by Dee Brestin entitled “A Woman of Contentment.” We will discover the truth of what it means to be content in the midst of life’s difficulties.

Our members who are blessed with the talent of knitting and/or crocheting will continue making Prayer Shawls, Lap Robes, and Chemo Caps on their own time as an outreach to ailing church members, family, and friends. We will also continue donating these items to the Raab Clinic, Crystal Bluffs, Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, and other facilities.

In the past, members of the church supported our outreach to the homeless in the area by donating plastic bags which were cut into strips and crocheted into sleep mats by Sisters in Christ members, Youth Group members, and others. The mats were donated to individuals who gave them to the homeless.

In January 2016, Sisters in Christ organized a monthly collection to support Operation Christmas Child. Church members donated specific items each month to fill shoe boxes which were packed by Sisters in Christ and sent in November.

Easter and Thanksgiving keepsakes and Christmas ornaments are made as a group effort during meetings. Before Easter and Thanksgiving, members of Sisters in Christ deliver the keepsakes to the home bound and others. Christmas ornaments are given to the children in the Children’s Christmas Program. If you are handy at cutting ribbon, tying bows, using glue, and stamping; among other things, you can help in making these crafts. If you prefer, you can join the conversation and fellowship while watching the others in this labor of love.

Sisters in Christ has supported a local group by providing signed Christmas cards and our heartfelt thanks to service members. Our signed cards, as well as those from various groups, were delivered to a variety of NC Veterans’ Homes.

Sisters in Christ has Visitation Teams who visit shut-ins, those with health problems, the home bound, and others.

On the second Tuesday of each month, we gather for food, fun, and fellowship at a local restaurant after our meeting.

If you are interested in being a part of a Bible Study Group, having Christian fellowship with other ladies, and sharing joys and concerns in prayer; please join us on Tuesday mornings during the school year. We gather in the kitchen between 9 and 9:30 a.m. for fellowship with coffee and refreshments before beginning our study and meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall. You’ll be glad you did and so will we, the current members of Sisters in Christ! All ladies are welcome!
